Women’s Health in the South East is excited to report that health promotion and primary prevention of women’s health in our region will be strengthened through additional funding provided to the service through the Victorian State Budget 2022-23.

“While we are relieved about this announcement, we are also incredibly excited about the opportunity it provides for WHISE to increase the support and services that we deliver to our region,” said Kit McMahon, WHISE CEO.

The Victorian State Government announced an additional $19.4 million for all 12 women’s health services over the next two years to continue their vital work to promote health and wellbeing and prevent family violence.

“We thank the State Government for this vote of trust in our work and for heeding our calls and the evidence that was put before them to address the needs of women across Victoria and in our region,” said Kerry Bradley, WHISE Chairperson.

“While the reality is that women’s health services have not received an increase in funding since 1988, this new funding recognised the key role of our services in the Victorian public health system.”

McMahon said, “At this moment we recognise the significant support and collective work of colleagues to secure this additional investment. Through the support and coordination of our peak body Gender Equity Victoria, colleagues from across Women’s Health Services and within government have worked together over the last 18 months to achieve this outcome.”
