Project Respect offers communities a practical pathway to apply commemorative justice principles to the systematic underrepresentation of women in public spaces. Developed through the work of City of Casey and WHISE, and grounded in the framework of Free Egunfemi and the Black Freedom movement, the guide provides three standalone stages of engagement for schools, councils and community organisations. Case Study
This case study documents how City of Casey, in partnership with WHISE and Geographic Names Victoria, worked with Year 10 students to research overlooked local women, produce advocacy materials, and pursue tangible recognition in public spaces. Inspired by Gender Equity Victoria’s Put Her Name on It campaign, the project shows how councils can activate genuine youth voice on gender equality and produce lasting change in how communities recognise women’s contributions.
