Women’s Health in the South East (WHISE) welcomes the opening of Victoria’s first ever dedicated family violence prevention agency, Respect Victoria.
WHISE congratulates the Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence Natalie Hutchins and the Labor Government for investing in a whole-of-community approach to preventing family violence.
“We look forward to working with Tracey Gaudry, Respect Victoria’s inaugural CEO and the inaugural board chair Melanie Eagle as we create a future free from violence against women,” says Ms Kit McMahon, CEO WHISE.
As part of the State Government’s efforts to create a Victoria free from family violence, the statutory authority will work to address gender inequality as a root cause of family violence.
“The Southern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne has some incredible work already underway that is changing the attitudes, social norms and culture that lead to family violence and violence against women.” said Ms McMahon.
“For sustainable success we know the value of working collaboratively to support regional implementation and are keen to work in strong partnership with Respect Victoria to realise the vision of this key agency.”
Over the last two years, WHISE has led the development of the Preventing Violence Together Regional Strategy, partnering with over 30 organisations, including local government and community health services committed to making meaningful impact in eliminating violence against women.
