The 16 Days of Activism Campaign starts 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and concludes 10 December (Human Rights Day). These dates symbolically link violence against women with human rights issues.
Globally 1 in 3 women experience gender-based violence during their lifetime.
In Australia,
- 1 in 2 has experience sexual harassment
- 1 in 3 women experience physical violence
- 1 in 5 has experience sexual violence
Southern Metropolitan Region data:
- Up to 9.54 per 10,000 women have experienced stalking, harassment and threatening behaviours and up to 334 reports of stalking, harassment and threatening behaviours were logged by Vic Police
- up to 139.51 per 10,000 women have experienced family violence and up to 3,935 reports of family violence were logged by Vic Police
- Up to 92.84 per 10,000 women have experienced intimate partner violence and up to 2,641 reports of intimate partner violence were logged by Vic Police
- Up to 18.62 per 10,000 women have experienced sexual violence and up to 346 reports of sexual violence were logged by Vic Police
