Submissions to the Royal Commission

The Royal Commission into Family Violence (Victoria) has sought submissions from individuals and organisations who have either been directly affected by family violence or that work in the family violence space. The submission process is a method of gathering views and information, alongside research, community engagement and public hearing activities conducted by the commission.
 
Women’s Health in the South East welcomes the establishment of the Royal Commission into Family Violence and is pleased to see that the focus of the Royal Commission’s inquiry is on sustainable system-wide improvements that build on the strengths of achievements to date in responding to and preventing family violence in Victoria. We are equally pleased that the Victorian Government has promised to accept all the commission’s recommendations.

Measuring the Toll: The Family Violence Index

In almost every other sphere of civic life and human wellbeing, there are firm measures that tell us where we are at and where we are headed.
 
A Family Violence Index will tell us so much more about the size and scope of our national emergency. Most importantly, it will help us save lives.

Issues Paper

The Royal Commission into Family Violence (‘the Royal Commission’) is seeking submissions from anyone directly affected by family violence, from individuals and organisations who have come into contact with people affected by family violence (whether directly working in the family violence sector or not), and from any others whose experiences and ideas may assist the work of the Royal Commission.

WHISE has produced an information sheet with prevention focussed key messages to assist partners and organisations interested in making a submission. It is a great way to advocate for prevention and we encourage as many submissions as possible to strengthen the case for long-term investment in primary prevention.

Terms of Reference

WHISE is very pleased to see the release of the Terms of Reference for the Royal Commission. Is it also pleasing to note that they will be tasked with providing practical recommendations to prevent family violence based on an examination of the current service system and best practice approaches. WHISE looks forward to working with the Government in any way we can to support this welcomed initiative.
